A Fun One at Pins Mechanical | Pittsburgh Photographer

Welp. This was a good time.

Lynn and I have been friends since high school, so I often use her as a test subject for new ideas. She told me she wanted to do a session at Pins Mechanical in the southside of Pittsburgh and I was like. Let’s do it.

Usually, when you are picking a location for family photos, the most important thing is the lighting. And I knew the lighting here would not be the best. And another consideration is other people in your shots. And it’s kind of chaotic. Chaos is something we try to avoid when photographing kids. They bring enough of their own chaos. If you haven't been, Pins is a bar, with pinball, and duckpin bowling, and Tequila Thursdays. So it doesn't meet my usual criteria for family photo locations.

Then why shoot here?

Because I knew it would be fun. And different. We went at a time when it wasn’t SUPER busy. We had some fun, and then we went to the rooftop-outdoor dining area to get a few quick shots that were more traditional. And as for the lighting, just because its not the best, doesn’t mean it’s not doable. Sometimes authenticity wins out over perfect lighting conditions.
